I have a dog who is 13 years old. We adopted her when she was two and she is always had severe storm anxiety. As she's gotten older, it's gotten worse. Our vet put her on prescription medication at a very high dose. The problem with that is that we had to give it to her an hour in advance so we were constantly having to watch the weather and hope that after we gave it to her it didn't turn away from us or if we didn't give it to her that it didn't turn towards us.
